SFSCA RAS scientists were part of the delegation from the Novosibirsk Region that visited the DPRK
The total area of agricultural land in the Republic is 1 million 600 thousand hectares. The population of the DPRK is over 25 million. The Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the DPRK has ten academicians, 120 doctors, 1200 candidates of sciences and more than 3000 young scientists.
The delegation of Siberian scientists visited eight research institutes of agricultural sciences, which have been operating since the 1950s. The scientists visited the Kangdong greenhouse complex and eight laboratories that control all vital processes of agricultural crops in the country. Rice is the most important crop in the DPRK, occupying more than 40 percent of the agricultural land area. Agrarians get up to 15 tons of rice per hectare, followed by wheat in the second place, corn in the third, and potatoes in the fourth place in the ranking.
In the future, the DPRK Academy of Sciences is interested in establishing a representative office in the Novosibirsk Region for effective scientific and technological cooperation. To date, the Parties have started work on the establishment of a joint laboratory in the field of breeding and seed production.
