project manager: Galina Moiseevna Goncharenko
The Siberian-Far Eastern region is characterized by a considerable variety of climatic zones differing in relief, precipitation, vegetation, for each of which sheep breeds with maximum adaptability to local conditions are created or adapted. The study of the influence of the climatic conditions on the genotypic structure, phenotype and interior traits in sheep of 6 main breeds created in the regions of Siberia and the Far East (Kulunda, Zabaikalskaya, Gorno-Altai, West Siberian meat, Aginskaya, Buubei) is the subject of our research.
Genetic architecture will be studied using immunogenetic analysis for blood groups and structural genes CAST, GH, GDF9, KRT1.2 encoding the most important breeding traits of sheep (meat quality, wool quality, growth of young animals). By means of comparative analysis of productivity of animals with different genotypes, desirable variants in each breed will be identified. On the basis of the genotype frequencies, population genetic parameters will be calculated for each flock (number of alleles at a locus, observed and expected heterozygosity at individual loci, number of homo and heterozygous loci, total homozygosity, genetic similarity index, genotype influence share). The degree of adaptability to environmental conditions will be judged by blood formula and expression of phenotypic traits (growth energy of young animals, exterior, wool and meat productivity).
Studies will be conducted in the conditions of the Siberian and Far Eastern region (Altai and Transbaikal Territories, the Republics of Gorny Altai and Buryatia).
