Contribution to Science
К. S. Golokhvast carried out a number of large experimental studies of fundamental and applied importance in the field of ecology, physiology, histology and biochemistry and their further development. In particular, to assess biological activity of the main components of atmospheric suspensions he created an experimental model based on the use of the most massive minerals (aluminosilicates, quartz) of the Far East deposits (as the main components of air suspension of this region) on natural targets - organs, tissues and cells, which normally interact with particles suspended in the atmosphere or reflect toxic effects of incoming agents.
For the first time he identified and considered a new abiotic environmental factor - nano- and microparticles of natural atmospheric suspensions, which was previously related to the concept of "suspended matter" or "dust" and was not distinguished from their total volume. It is shown that fine particles of atmospheric minerals suspended in the atmosphere can exhibit antigenic properties (form an immune response of the organism).
He was the first to comprehensively study man-made nanoparticles suspended in the atmosphere of Russian cities with the establishment of sources (cars, galvanic and welding production).
Biomineralization process in fungi has been discovered.
Under the leadership of K.S. Golokhvast a new scientific field was created - marine nanotoxicology, within the framework of which he studied the effects of the main types of nanomaterials on a wide range of marine organisms (algae, echinoderms, mollusks, fish). The term "digital toxicology" was coined to describe a branch of knowledge dealing with the negative impact of new digital technologies (virtual and augmented reality) on human psychophysiology. Scientific papers
The author of more than 500 scientific works, including 10 monographs, more than 400 articles in journals from the list of the Higher Attestation Commission, more than 180 articles in Scopus and WoS databases, as well as 35 patents of the Russian Federation, 2 certificates for state standard reference sample and 9 textbooks. The main works are devoted to research of negative effect of nanomaterials on human organism, which is an interdisciplinary topic at the interface of human ecology, medical ecology, ecotoxicology and nanotoxicology.
